Ambassador Ahmad Rusdi has been a Scout since he was in elementary school at the Kwartir Branch of Pekalongan, Central Java. Later, while studying at Padjadjaran University, Ahmad became Chairman of the Pandega Scout Racana Council and represented Indonesia at the Rover Moot in Taiwan. He has been involved in national-level Scouting in Indonesia since 2003 and has been Vice Chairman, Chief of International Relations for Gerakan Pramuka for ten years.

A longstanding supporter of Scouting the Asia-Pacific Region Scouting, Ambassador Rusdi was the recent Chair of the Asia-Pacific Scout Committee (2018–2022) and is currently President of the Asia-Pacific Region Scout Foundation (2022–2025).

Became a member of the World Baden-Powell Fellowship in 2019 and joined the WSF Board in 2023.

As a bureaucrat at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Rusdi was assigned to the Presidential Household and State Protocol from the era of President Soeharto to President Joko Widodo.

During his diplomatic career, Ambassador Rusdi was the Indonesian Ambassador to Greece (2009­–2012) and the Kingdom of Thailand (2016–2020). After retiring from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2021, he became an Advisor at the Sinar Mas President's Office.

Ambassador Rusdi has also lectured and facilitated courses for junior diplomats and senior officers on topics including foreign diplomacy and negotiation as part of studies in international relations. Froom 2021­–2022, he taught at the University of Hasanuddin, Makassar, Sulawesi.

He has participated in numerous Scout activities, Jamborees and Conferences at world and regional level, and for his services to Scouting has been honoured with awards from Korea, the Philippines, Brunei Darussalam, The General Association of the Scouts of China, Pakistan, Malaysia and Indonesia.
