Natural Disaster Response

Asia-Pacific Scout Region
April 2015 Nepal

The world witnessed in shock in April 2015 as the people of Nepal reeled in the aftermath of the worst earthquake to strike the
nation in a generation. In the first hours, following the disaster, Nepal’s 30,000 Scouts reacted instinctively by rescuing people trapped by fallen buildings, leading people to safety and administering first aid.

In the following days and weeks, they went on to help poorer families salvage what they could, map their communities for needs and vulnerabilities, and helped government and UN agencies to plan for the recovery efforts.

These well trained and highly motivated and disciplined young community leaders were a crucial human resource for their county when they were needed most.
