Ticket To Life II

In Manila, alone, there are estimated to over 70,000 street children. Scouts in Manila took an idea from their peers in Nairobi who had run a programme called Ticket to Life. They reached out to street kids and their families and brought them back in to education, and Scouting and helped them reintegrate into mainstream society.
Using an amazing programme of “resilience” many of these street Scouts have shunned violence, drugs and prostitution and are working to better their communities. A number are attending university, with the intention to become teachers and community workers to make a difference in their own communities in the future.
This is a peace programme that is spanning generations, and has moved from Manila to other centres in the Philippines, and beyond to Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Pakistan. From one successful initiative, begun decades ago in Nairobi, Scouts through their network as Messengers of Peace have touched many lives and many communities a world away.
