Ebola Virus

The Scouts of Sierra Leone helped the government and international partners (St. George Foundation ) establish an isolation centre at the Grafton National Scout Camp, 20 miles from Freetown to help combat the devastating effects of the Ebola outbreak in 2014.
The camp served as a holding centre for Ebola survivors as they awaited re-integration into their communities. It also offered refuge for children orphaned by the ongoing Ebola virus pandemic. Scout leaders also trained 300 Scouts in Freetown to lead a social mobilisation drive in the local communities. Since the outbreak of the Ebola virus in May 2014, Sierra Leone Scouts, working as Messengers of Peace also took care of street children, Ebola orphans and survivors – marginalised by the outbreak, shunned by the community, but loved by the Scouts!
