Children in Conflict Zones

Part of the “collateral damage” in the ongoing conflict and insecurity in various parts of Sudan is the countless numbers of young boys and girls drafted into the armed groups involved in the conflict. The long term impact on these individuals is devastating, the impact on the community potentially disastrous.
Refusing to accept this, Scouts in Sudan moved in to work with former child soldiers fleeing the conflict or taken prisoner by “the other side” and released into UN care. Aside from simply giving these innocent children back their childhood, through education and play, the Scouts have also worked with them in a special programme of entrepreneurship, helping former child soldiers, through a Messengers of Peace project, to become leaders in their communities.
