The Baden-Powell Circle

The World Scout Foundation’s Honorary Chairman, His Majesty Carl XVI Gustaf King of Sweden, welcomed today His Royal Highness Prince Alwaleed bin Talal bin Abdulaziz al Saud to the Foundation’s most prestigious level – the Baden-Powell Circle.

This group, only recently constituted by the Foundation, which His Majesty has led since 1977, comprises leaders who have inspired young people to do amazing things in their communities. Through his action and support, but above all through his relentless energy for innovation and change, and in particular by personal example, His Royal Highness has been chosen as the Inaugural Member of the Foundation’s Baden-Powell Circle.

Through his actions, His Royal Highness has helped to inspire the over 35 million young men and women who constitute Scouting’s membership in a million local groups in 162 countries. His Royal Highness has also encouraged Saudi Scouting to recruit young women to their membership over recent years, and has been a strong supporter, together with His Majesty the Swedish King, of the global Messengers of Peace Initiative.  Over 18 million hours of service has been recorded online by the Scouts who act as Messengers of Peace in this positive social media led global programme.

His Majesty recognised His Royal Highness today at a private ceremony in Geneva, Switzerland.
